NATRUE at the forum
As part of the official programme, Dr Mark Smith, Director General of NATRUE, will deliver a presentation on 4th March at 10.35h titled: “Unlocking Nature’s Potential – The Role of the Bioeconomy in the Future of Cosmetics.” In his session, Dr. Smith will explore how the EU bioeconomy framework is increasingly relevant to the cosmetics sector, highlighting how biobased materials can contribute to enhanced sustainability performance and reduced dependence on fossil resources. The presentation will also examine how responsible natural sourcing connects with wider regulatory developments and certification trends, and how bioeconomy principles can drive the next generation of product innovation.

Later that day, at 17:00, Mark will lead a roundtable discussion on  Implementing Circular Economy Practices during the forum’s small group sessions. In light of recent and forthcoming regulatory developments, the discussion will focus on practical pathways for embedding circularity into cosmetic value chains. Participants will consider the challenges of meeting new recyclability requirements while maintaining product integrity, the strategic choices between recycled and bio-based materials, and the importance of cross-industry collaboration to achieve meaningful progress towards a truly circular model.
