At NATRUE, we love highlighting the voices behind the natural beauty movement. Today, we’re delighted to speak with Elisabeth, the founder of the German blog Elisabeth Green. For over a decade, Elisabeth has become a trusted voice in natural beauty, sustainability, and healthy living — inspiring her community with product reviews that are, in her words, “practical, honest, and research-driven.”
“As a self-employed mom of two,” she shares, “I focus on making conscious choices easier – one product at a time.” Through her thoughtful content, Elisabeth has helped demystify the world of natural cosmetics and empower her readers to shop more mindfully.
NATRUE: How does your skincare routine change in summer, and which natural beauty products are must-haves in your beauty bag this season?
Elisabeth: In summer, my skincare routine becomes much shorter overall, and I switch to lighter products. A hydrating serum is an absolute must-have for me – especially on hot days. I largely avoid too many active ingredients like fruit acids during this time and instead focus on reliable sun protection.
When it comes to make-up, less is definitely more. Most days, a bit of concealer, a touch of blush or lip oil, and filled-in brows are enough. It’s quick and still looks fresh! As a self-employed mum of two, I don’t have much time to spend in the bathroom anyway.
NATRUE: Do you have a go-to secret for keeping skin fresh and hydrated in the heat using only natural cosmetics?
Elisabeth: I love toners that give my skin an extra boost of moisture – especially in spray form. That way, I can refresh my skin throughout the day whenever it feels dry or warm.
In summer, I also focus more on “beauty from within.” Drinking plenty of still water, eating a nutrient-rich diet, and getting enough protein and healthy fats is essential for me. Fresh fish provides valuable omega-3 fatty acids – perfect for the skin, hair, and overall well-being. If you don’t eat fish, I highly recommend supplementing with those essential fatty acids.
NATRUE: How can we play with summery shades and colours without compromising on ingredients?
Elisabeth: For me, it’s clear: natural cosmetics no longer have to hide when it comes to colour. On the contrary, I believe they offer everything you need for a fresh summer look.
A touch of colour on the cheeks and lips is more than enough for me. Combined with a natural glow from the sun, it all feels summery, effortless, and polished.
NATRUE: What does it mean to you when a product is certified by NATRUE? Does it influence your purchase decision?
Elisabeth: For anyone new to natural cosmetics or unsure about what to buy, the NATRUE label is a great point of reference. It offers reassurance that only certified natural or organic ingredients are used.
Personally, I pay a bit less attention to labels these days, as I tend to review the ingredients myself and often rely on brands I’ve trusted for years. That said, I truly value what NATRUE stands for – and because I’m already familiar with its strict standards, I don’t feel the need to double-check when I see the label on a product I already trust.
NATRUE: How do you help your community distinguish truly natural cosmetics from greenwashing?
Elisabeth: My readers and followers have trusted me for over ten years because I review products and brands thoroughly. I don’t just analyse ingredients in detail – I also look behind the scenes: How sustainable is the company really? How is production handled? What about packaging, supply chains, and transparency?
That’s why I’ve introduced many brands in depth on my blog – sharing background information and honest product reviews. I always test products myself over a longer period before I recommend anything. Whether a brand carries a certification or offers other unique benefits, my readers always get the full picture.
Personally, I especially love small brands that use a high percentage of organic ingredients and have a meaningful story behind their products. That said, I always try to keep an open mind and avoid being too dogmatic.
NATRUE: If you could only take three natural beauty products on holiday, what would they be – and why?
Elisabeth: A hydrating serum is an absolute essential for me when I travel – especially in the heat, as it’s important to nourish the skin without overloading it. Next, a reliable sunscreen that offers strong protection and applies easily and comfortably. And finally, a pure, multi-purpose oil – like argan or jojoba – which I use for my face, body, and hair. It replaces several products and saves space in my suitcase.
NATRUE: Do you have a tip for anyone just starting to explore natural beauty this summer?
Elisabeth: Feel free to check out my blog for some inspiration. 🙂 But seriously – there are so many amazing brands to discover! If you have access to an organic store or a natural beauty boutique, I’d recommend getting personalised advice and testing a few products in person. But even in drugstores, you’ll now find a wide selection of certified natural cosmetics – often for just a few euros.
My tip: start small, try things out, compare – and, above all, don’t stress or lose the joy in the process. Beauty should always be fun!
