NATRUE was honoured to participate in the UN One Planet Network Forum, held from 12th to 13th September in Rio de Janeiro, (Brazil,) alongside leading voices in global sustainability. The forum, which brings together more than 6,200 individual members engaged in sustainable consumption and production from around the world, provided NATRUE with an invaluable platform to advocate for sustainable practices within the natural and organic cosmetics sector.
The One Planet network also boasts a collaborative effort of over 1,500 partner organisations from government, business, and civil society, with more than 120 national governments actively involved, making this forum a key gathering for discussing solutions to global sustainability challenges.
NATRUE at the Forum:
On 12th September, Dr Mark Smith, NATRUE’s Director General, represented NATRUE as a key speaker, delivering an insightful presentation titled “NATRUE: Driving the Global Shift to Sustainable, Natural, and Organic Personal Care.” His address focused on the vital role that transparent, high-standard certifications play in advancing sustainability, while empowering consumers to make better-informed choices.
In his presentation, Dr Smith explored how transparency and traceability are essential drivers of the green and digital transitions towards a sustainable, circular, and fair economy. Personal care products are a staple of everyday life, with the average consumer using at least seven different cosmetic products daily—from toothpaste and shampoo to soap and deodorant. Dr Smith demonstrated how the cosmetics industry can adopt clear and achievable sustainable tools, alongside best practices, to create meaningful change and align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The presentation highlighted data-driven evidence and case studies that showcase NATRUE’s contribution to reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable development from production to consumer information.
Beyond the presentations, NATRUE took the opportunity to network extensively, engaging with key stakeholders and sustainability leaders, fostering discussions on the latest challenges and innovations in sustainability. These conversations paved the way for potential collaborations and reinforced the importance of driving positive change within the cosmetics industry.
Dr Mark Smith stated: “The UN One Planet Network Forum was an inspiring opportunity to connect with like-minded leaders from around the world. By working together, we can continue to push for higher standards and sustainable practices that benefit both consumers and the environment.” |
By participating in this influential international forum, NATRUE reaffirmed its commitment to shaping a more sustainable and responsible future for the cosmetics industry.
