NATRUE

True Stories

From nature’s wisdom to everyday rituals:
meet Taoasis

Axel Meyer, founder of TAOASIS
My Name is Axel Meyer and I am the founder of TAOASIS. Besides building this company from scratch, based on my passion for natural fragrances and essential oils, I always liked to be outside and connected with nature. Whether it’s hiking, mountain biking, swimming or stand-up paddling, being active in nature always was and still is one of my favourite things to do. Through my trips to Asia and India in my early 20s, I was able to dive into a completely different world than known to us: colourful cultures, that honour the connection with nature… This is also where my inspirations came to life.

NATRUE: TAOASIS was born from a personal journey seeking meaning in life. How did that experience influence the creation of the brand and its approach to aromatherapy?
Axel: While visiting Asia and India, I discovered the philosophy of the Taoism.
Taoism is a Chinese philosophy and worldview, based on living in harmony with nature and meeting every life and presence with the same respect. Discovering this new way of living was eye-opening for me and left a lasting impression.

Learning how to make my own incense sticks and exploring the colourful spice markets were also formative experiences for me – experiences I wanted to combine in one oasis. Through that, TAOASIS was founded, and Taoism is deeply rooted in this company.

It is one of our priorities that every employee, every trainee, and every member of our service staff is respected and treated equally. Furthermore, it is also one of our greatest priorities that all our organic scents and essential oils are of the best possible quality and carry an organic or demeter certification.

NATRUE: Your philosophy emphasises living in harmony with nature. How is this principle reflected in your daily practices and business decisions?
Axel: There are different ways that this philosophy is incorporated into our company. One of our best implementations is our scent garden, which is completely self-financed and organised. Open all year round, blooming with a variety of flowers and decorated with relaxing elements, this garden oasis has the purpose of awaking curiosity and intuition in visitors – showing them where their roots come from and inspiring a connection with nature. I am a very intuitive person myself, so I decide a lot of things from the gut.

NATRUE: Among your diverse range of essential oils, which particular scents do you consider your signature? What makes these aromas stand out in the realm of aromatherapy?
Axel: We were the first company in Germany to sell organic tea tree oil, and because of that for the first few years it was our signature oil – even seen as a panacea. Today, our signature oil is lavender, closely followed by lemon, orange, peppermint, and rose oil. Lavender is most suitable for the modern world; it balances stress, harmonizes, and relaxes. That is exactly what most people need nowadays.

NATRUE: TAOASIS sources essential oils from various regions worldwide. How do you ensure the quality and sustainability of these ingredients across different climates and ecosystems?
Axel: We support and cooperate with organic and sustainable partners, who plant only the ingredients that traditionally grew in their regions. Therefore, the ecosystem and climate are natural for the plants. In addition to that, we personally know almost every partner, and for those I haven’t met yet, I plan to visit them. This way, we can ensure the best possible quality and sustainability.

NATRUE: How do you feel NATRUE certification helps build consumer trust and communicate transparency in your natural and organic product lines?
Axel: For people who are already familiar with organic and sustainable products, the NATRUE certifications is important and reassuring. For those who aren’t familiar with organic and sustainable products they may not immediately understand why this certification makes the product even better. That is why we need to keep drawing awareness of this product range and quality seal. It helps people understand the importance of this topic.

NATRUE: From its beginnings in the 1980s to becoming a family business with nearly a thousand products, how has TAOASIS maintained authenticity and commitment to nature over the years?
Axel: Personal passion and wishes for a change definitely played a big part, but the most important factor has always been my son, Govinda. He grew up with this business and is motivated to support what I started. His drive to make it even better and take us even further is what has brought us and this company to where we are today. We all want to continue growing this organic company because we truly care about what we do.
