NATRUE

NATRUE has participated in the “BIOFACH/VIVANESS 2022 Sneak Preview & Insight”, an online event organized by the NürnbergMesse GmbH following the postponement of VIVANESS 2022 due to the pandemic situation. This online event, which took place on 15th February 2022, was an “aperitif”, an opportunity to discover the latest insights on the international and national markets for natural and organic cosmetics and organic food.

The organic market continues its growing tendency
The global pandemic situation resulted in a significant increase in demand for organic products, and this has been shown by data: the global market for organic food experimented with its highest growth ever in 2020, exceeding 120 billion euros.

The European organic food market follows this global trend. In 2020, it increased by almost 15 percent and reached €52.0 billion, the highest growth rate in the past decade. Those data are included in the 23rd statistics yearbook “The World of Organic Agriculture” and have been presented during the online event by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FIBL and IFOAM – Organics International together with BIOFACH, the world’s leading trade fair for organic food.

NOC sector: a rise in e-commerce
In 2021, the sales growth of natural cosmetics in Germany, Europe’s largest natural and organic market, increase by 1.8%. Moreover, the natural sector of the cosmetic industry is the only segment that shows positive growth. In recent years hand-in-hand with the growing interest from consumers towards products that are natural and environmentally and socially sustainable, there has been a notable change in the distribution channels, as traditional sales modes gave way to e-commerce (through online platforms, social media, applications…).

What’s next?
“The NOC’s market will continue to grow but further work is required to ensure claims substantiation and better regulation for environmental claims, like natural and organic, to avoid inconsistency between deliverables and consumers’ expectations,” concluded Dr. Mark Smith, NATRUE Director General. As part of VIVANESS, NATRUE will be available to provide insights into internationally actions and emerging and evolving legislation affecting the natural and organic cosmetics sector, as well as updates to the NATRUE Label criteria.
