NATRUE is excited to participate in the SEPAWA Congress 2024, the most significant meeting point of detergents, cleansers, cosmetics and fragrance industry in Europe. Taking place from 16th to 18th October in Berlin (Germany), last year’s congress attracted over 3,500 attendees from 65 countries, and featured 155 expert-led presentations by speakers representing more than 20 nationalities. These numbers underscore the event’s significance as a valuable platform for networking and gaining insights into industry trends.
NATRUE’s role at SEPAWA 2024
On Thursday, 17th October, Dr Mark Smith, NATRUE’s Director General, will deliver a key presentation at 09:20 AM titled “Green Claims Substantiation: The NATRUE Standard”. This session will explore the latest regulatory developments and upcoming legislation related to green claims, as well as how NATRUE’s stringent standards help substantiate sustainable claims.
To enable responsible consumer choices and combat ‘greenwashing’, green claims must be reliable, comparable, and verifiable. NATRUE’s presentation will emphasize the association’s efforts in this area, with a particular focus on its Label criteria for third-party certification of natural or organic raw materials and finished products.
Additionally, Dr Smith will participate in a panel discussion titled “Eco Beauty Scores and Certifications – A Panel Discussion with the Key Players” at 10:45h. Moderated by Dr. Barbara Olioso, founder of the Green Chemist Consultancy, the panel will delve into various approaches to sustainability in beauty. Panelists include Frederic Blondy from Laboratoires Pierre Fabre, Harald Dittmar of COSMOS-standard AISBL, Silvia Ferratini from the European Commission’s DG Environment, and Laurent Gilbert from L’Oréal Recherche & Innovation.
The discussion will address the complexities of sustainability within the beauty industry, examining qualitative and quantitative methods for assessing sustainability, such as the Eco Beauty Score, the Green Impact Index, and established standards like NATRUE’s one. This will be an invaluable session for those interested in the evolving landscape of sustainable beauty and how different frameworks contribute to transparency and consumer trust.
